Ballyknock Castle vanished into a disused farm yard within an old ringfort, leaving only an uneven low mound where stubborn men knocked down what remained of its walls. The Fitzgerald family probably raised it, yet their name and purpose have faded behind overgrown brambles and abandoned buildings. What is left is a heap of rubble and a quiet warning that even proud stone must yield to time and forgetting.

In disused farm yard, within ringfort (CO055-007001-). Interior of ringfort overgrown; uneven low mound in SW quadrant identified by Healy (1988, 379) as 'heap of rubble left after what remained of the walls had been knocked down'. Abandoned farm buildings to N of recent origin. Little is known of its history, probably built by the Fitzgerald family.
