Ballinagall Orange Hall

Detached three-bay Orange hall, dated 1887, having gabled porch to front (north) elevation and central return to rear. Now in use as domestic shed. Pitched slate roof, with red brick chimneystacks, terracotta ridge-crests and finial, and cast-iron rainwater goods. Harl-rendered walls, ruled-and-lined to porch and west elevation. Tooled dressed limestone name and shield-shaped date-plaques, having peck-dressed recessed panels, to front of porch. Square-headed window openings, with tooled sandstone sills and one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Square-headed door opening to east elevation of porch and rear return, having timber panelled doors. Boundary hedge enclosing site, terminating in stretch of recent, overgrown, boundary wall with timber traffic gate to north-east.

This modest building is enlivened by terracotta ridge-cresting and a tooled stone date-plaque, the elaborate script of which adds artistic as well as contextual interest to the site. Unusually, it has a specific dedication. Although it is no longer in use as an Orange hall, it would have constituted a strong focal point for the community in the locality in the past, and reflects the social and political history of County Monaghan.
