Athenia

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Athenia as Liner (period Unassigned)-(1917). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Athenia was a British passenger liner launched in 1899 and converted to an auxiliary cruiser during World War I. It was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat on September 3, 1915, off the coast of Ireland, resulting in the loss of 22 lives; the wreck holds historical significance as one of the earliest Allied ships sunk in the war.
