What is recorded here

Located on a level landscape c. 120m S of the sea-cliffs (H c. 10m) W of Rosslare Harbour. A substantial house and a windmill are depicted on the Down Survey (1656-8) barony map of Forth and the parish map of Kilrane, where Ballygerry incorporates Haysland townland, and the windmill is depicted at the E edge of Ballygerry close to the sea. A windmill stump is depicted on the 1839 and 1940 eds of the OS 6-inch map in this area and was probably the original mill, of which there is no trace now. See the attached view from the Down Survey parish map (N at right) reproduced courtesy of the National Library of Ireland (Ms 725). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 3 January, 2014
