William Brouncker, 2nd Viscount Brouncker

William Brouncker, 2nd Viscount Brouncker, was born around 1620 in Castlelyons, County Cork, Ireland, the elder son of the first viscount and a woman named Winifred. His family had settled in Ireland after his grandfather served as Lord President of Munster, and his father received a viscountcy in 1645 for Crown service. Brouncker later became mathematician, Royal Society president and naval commissioner, but his life began in that Cork household where title, loyalty and hardship already intertwined.
