Freestanding cast-iron water hydrant, manufactured c.1890, having fluted shaft and cap with acorn finial. New tap fitted and still in use. Set on the footpath.

A cast-iron item of street furniture which exhibits restrained detailing that enlivens the form of this functional object. The hydrant is a reminder of a time before the widespread provision of piped water supply, and contributes to the historic character of the locality.
