Water pump in Curragh West has its own steps, raised platform and enclosing wall. You approach with an empty bucket feeling you should have brought a letter of introduction. Your Lordship, the kettle is desperate.
Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1935, having cylindrical shaft set into concrete plinth, water spout with bucket grip and fluted collar, banding above spout, fluted neck with moulding to base, fluted domed cap with pointed finial, and square-section pumping handle. Pump set atop rendered platform accessed by steps within rectangular rendered enclosing wall at roadside.
This is a particularly well kept water pump and enclosure. It recalls the era before piped domestic water supply and is a pleasant and interesting roadside feature.
