Water pump in Meenlagh shares its recessed nook with the gate to the parochial house. An unfortunate place to exchange gossip: you’d get as far as “Now, Father must never hear this” before noticing you were practically ringing his bell.

Cast-iron water pump, erected c.1870, with banded shaft, having finial and fluting to cap, and with curved pumping arm. Set within recessed rendered walls with wrought-iron gate.

This water pump exhibits artistic detailing in its design, with an elegantly curved handle, banded shaft, fluted cap and finial. The gate provides access to the adjacent parochial house.
