Water mill

In 1647 a fine of £15 was levied on a group of mills in Co. Westmeath to pay Captain Ignatius Nugent of the Irish Confederate Army. The sum of £1 8s was levied on 'Edward Fay, or same, one mill at Direnegaragh [Derrynagarragh] (Cal. S.P. Ire., 624). The Corn Mill depicted on 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map may be located on site of watermill depicted on the 1657 Down Survey map of Teagheltowne (Faughalstown) parish (NLI, MS 723-4). The medieval mill belonged to Edward Fay. The location of the present corn mill matches closely the location of the mill marked on the Down Survey map.
