What is recorded here

Medieval castle located 135m SE of St. Mary's medieval church (WM008-097002-) and graveyard (WM008-097014-). No surface remains visible. Situated on flat grassland with good views in all directions. Marked as 'Christians Castle in ruins' on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map which suggests that at this time there were some upstanding remains visible of this castle. The castle is marked as 'Site of' by the 1901 edition of the OS 6-inch map which suggests that by this date no surface remains of the castle survived above ground. 'Christians Castle' was presumably a late medieval tower house but nothing survives above ground today (Bradley et. al. 1985, 95). Compiled and updated by: Caimin O'Brien Date of revised upload: 14 April 2015
