Described in the Civil Survey (1654-6) as 'Upon the sd Knockanroe there is a Castle and a grinding Mill in repaire' (Simington 1931, vol.1, 79). The mill is unlocated within the townland. A millrace is indicated on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map in the extreme SW of the townland and forms the townland boundary. It continues through OS 29.
