According to the Civil Survey (1654-6) there was ‘a Mill’ in ‘Boytonrath', which in 1640 was under the proprietorship of ‘Edmond Butler of Boytonrath James Butler his Father. Irish Papists’ (Simington 1934, vol. 2, 238). This watermill is unlocated within the townland.
