Blackwell lodge in Kilmurry, County Kilkenny, birthplace of W. G. Wills in 1828, stands where a Reverend's son rejected law for painting and verse. That choice produced over thirty plays, including Charles I, which held the Lyceum stage for two hundred nights. The house gave no warning about this outcome. It gave only a boy, a pen, and enough pride to refuse an easier life.
