Tremadoc Bay makes a broad sweep of coast beneath Eryri, with Criccieth near its northern side and the long sands towards Harlech wrapping round the east. It is a whole bay rather than a single beach, so each shore gives a different view. Tom says he tried to measure it with a bucket; the tide demanded a bigger one. The national park's coastal study describes a crescent of sand on the eastern shore, Morfa Harlech and the rocky outline of Moel y Gest. Harlech Castle stands above a coast that once reached nearer its walls; its water gate recalls that older shoreline. At Criccieth, the castle splits two sheltered beaches, with the coast path continuing towards Porthmadog. Visit Wales describes Morfa Bychan's wide sand near that town, while the shore farther south opens towards Harlech. The bay is shaped by river mouths, dunes and changing tides, not by one neat promenade. Pick a public beach or a signed stretch of the Wales Coast Path and watch the headlands shift as you move. Tom claims the castles of Criccieth and Harlech once argued across the water about who had the better view; the bay declined to referee. Keep to marked paths through dunes and give birds and other beach users room. A map helps distinguish a pleasant shore walk from a route cut off by water. Tremadoc Bay has many public viewpoints and beaches, but access, dog rules and facilities differ at each one. Check the chosen shore's current signs and tide before setting out; do not treat the whole bay as one safe walking surface. The reward is scale: castles, sand and mountains rearranging themselves with every mile.
