Toberkevin

In a slight hollow in a N-facing pasture slope, some 150m ESE of Tipperkevin Church (KD024-020----) and graveyard (KD024-020001-). According to Jackson (1979-80, 155), while there was no formal pattern at the well, miraculous cures were reputed to have been obtained from its waters, and it may have been located on an old pilgrimage route to Glendalough. Toberkevin is traditionally associated with Saint Kevin, a 6th-century Irish monk and founder of the monastery at Glendalough, and is believed to have healing properties, particularly for eye ailments. The well's location near Tipperkevin Church suggests a long-standing Christian and folkloric connection to the saint's cult in the region.
