Church in Ruins

In a graveyard (KD024-020001-), on the Naas to Glendalough pilgrimage route, with an old laneway (KD024-032----) just to the N possibly forming part of that route. Named for St. Kevin, the church was part of the parish of the dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough in 1216. It is last mentioned in a visitation report of 1609 (O’Neill 2004-5, 438). Low, poorly preserved, grass-covered walls of mortared limestone and occasional tufa (max. H. 1m) define a rectangular structure comprising a dug out nave (min. 15.8m E-W; 6.5m N-S) and a possibly later chancel (9.6m E-W; 4.2m N-S). Stands on sloping ground with two buttresses against the N wall (downslope). Three cross slabs (KD024-020002-, KD024-020003- and KD024-020004-) and fragment of a baptismal font (KD024-020005-) were recorded here in 1985 (Healy SMR file).
