What is recorded here

In rough pasture. According to the OS Letters (1839), 'there is a well called Tobar Eibhlinne said to be holy (though its name does not sound very holy); its name is locally pronounced Tober Eileen' (O'Flanagan 1930, vol. 2, 10 (4)). When visited in 1989 it was visible as a dried up rough hole in ground. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 7 March 2022
Linked to Saint Eibhlinne (or Eileen), the well is traditionally associated with healing and fertility. Local folklore suggests that the water was sought for its curative properties, particularly in childbirth and women's ailments.
