Tobercolman

Tobercolman/Tobar Colmáin: This well is located in poor upland pasture on the S side of Cloon valley. An early ecclesiastical site (KE082-020007-) occurs 650m to W and a bullaun stone is located on the wall of a hut 40m to E (KE082-081----). A paving of slabs is laid in front of the overgrown well, which consists of a spring-fed natural hollow. A legend involving a pink fish is associated with the site (local information). Tobercolman is associated with Saint Columba (Colmán), a revered early Irish Christian saint linked to numerous holy wells across Ireland. The well may have been used for ritual healing or baptismal practices, as was common at sites connected to early monastic traditions.
