What is recorded here
Canal lock, opened 1804, with timber gates framing limestone ashlar battered walls having concrete flagged coping. Sited on Grand Canal.
A canal lock representing an important component of the civil engineering heritage of County Kildare: meanwhile, a weathered benchmark remains of additional interest for the connections with cartography and the preparation of maps by the Ordnance Survey (established 1824).
