What is recorded here
Detached three-bay two-storey former rectory, built 1882-3, having lower two-storey return to rear, canted bay to east end of front, and porch to entrance. Hipped slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks. Rendered walls having moulded string course and platband at first floor sill level, platbands at impost levels and continuing over windows to give hood-moulding effect, raised surrounds to first floor windows, and sill course to ground floor. Square-headed six-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows, except for canted faces of canted bay which have four-over-two pane windows, and windows to return which are two-over-two pane. Limestone sills to first floor. Flat-roof porch has moulded cornice and finial, platbands to rendered walls, sill course, segmental-headed doorway with timber panelled door flanked by square-headed niches, and having square-headed windows to side elevations with single-pane lower lifts and decoratively-glazed upper lifts. Rectory became private house in 1940s. Gateway to south-west opposite associated Church of Ireland church comprises curving rendered walls, square-profile piers and double-leaf cast-iron vehicular gates.
This house has an unusual form for a rectory, a product of its late date of construction. It displays features typical of its era, such as the canted bay, platbanding and the form of the timber sash windows. The retention of good render details and of fabric such as the sash windows and panelled door, considerably enhances this building. It passed into the hands of the Foott family whose forebear instigated the construction of the building.
