Sweat House, sweathouse in County Leitrim (LE012-051----)

What is recorded here

Indicated as a sweat house only on the 1910 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. It is situated on the W bank of a S-N stream, at the outer edge of a shelf, and c. 50m SW of an abandoned farmhouse. This s a circular roofless chamber (int. diam. 1.3m; max. H 1.3m) with the surrounding mound (diam. 3.4m N-S; 3m E-W; H 0.3m at S to 1.5m at N). The entrance (Wth 0.5m; H 0.4m), now blocked, is at N. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003).
