Sunday Well

On low-lying ground on the W bank of a small stream. Named 'Sunday Well' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. The well has been filled in and is not visible at ground level. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 7 June 2013

Linked to St. Sunday (Seandán), a lesser-known early Irish saint, the well was traditionally associated with healing and was likely visited on Sundays for ritual washing or drinking. Though now filled in, such wells were often sites of local pilgrimage and were believed to have curative properties, particularly for skin ailments or general ill health.
