Derryville bog in County Kilkenny held a single oak plank when men cut it free in 2006. The wood measured twenty-two centimetres across and eight deep, pointing northeast to southwest inside the drain face. Carbon dating placed it between 300 and 220 BC, long before written records reached that wet dark. It may have been a bridge, a marker or a gift, but the bog kept its shape while forgetting its purpose.

Discovered in Derryville bog in 2006 during a fieldwalking survey of the Bord na Móna industrial peatlands in the Littleton group of bogs (Licence nos. 06E0696-06E0706). A single oak plank (Wth 0.22m; D 0.08m) recorded in the drain face in a poor state of preservation. It was orientated NE-SW. A date of 300-220 BC was obtained. (Whitaker 2007, Catalogue no.
