Fulacht fia in Derryfadda — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

Situated on flat bogland with a togher (TN036-050052) overlying the site. The fulacht fia consisted of a timber-lined trough (dims. 2.4m x 1.75m x 0.6m), a hearth area (dims. L 1.2m; Wth 0.8m) and a mound (dims. 14m N-S x 19m E-W) of burnt material scattered over a wide area. From a technical assssment of the volume of the mound material the excavators suggested a possible figure of 400-500 firings over the life of the site (Murray and Ó Néill 1999, Derryfadda 216, 51-3).
