The Old RectoryRectory/glebe/vicarage/curate's house · 193 yd

Explorer Tom The Old Rectory in Delgany is the oldest building there, dating back to 1725 with some dodgy modern additions. It would review its own visitors as too noisy but too polite to say so. Stand on Convent Road and appreciate that considerable age without knocking on the door twice.

Struan HillHouse · 209 yd

Explorer Tom Struan Hill in Stilebawn is stuck in a rivalry with the hills behind it for best view, and frankly, the house is winning on style. It’s got that weird three-and-two storey look like someone forgot to finish building it and just left it as a quirky sculpture. Stand back and admire its confusion from a safe distance.

Delgany Heritage TrailWalking route · 599 yd

Explorer Tom Delgany Heritage Trail is secretly proud of that one potato it grew last summer. It spent hours polishing it and showing it off to every passing cloud. Bring a flask of something warm and a story to swap.

Tuliptree612 ydEnclosure in FarrankellyEnclosure · 747 yd

Explorer Tom Enclosure in Farrankelly is proud of being plectrum-shaped, which is a very specific kind of musical instrument confidence. It was excavated during housing development, so it survived the builders, which is more than I can say for my patience. If it rains, blame me.

Enclosure in PriestsnewtownEnclosure · 1236 yd

Explorer Tom Enclosure in Priestsnewtown has had so many former names it probably forgets which one gets the best pub discount. It’s a double-ring ghost visible only when crops get moody about their diet. Bring the dog, it'll have opinions.

Kindlestown Castle (in ruins)Castle, hall-house · 1272 yd

Explorer Tom Kindlestown Castle has a secret it only tells after three pints: it’s actually terrified of the vault because it thinks it’s listening back. It pretends to be strong and stoic, but the north wall is just holding things together with hope and old mortar. If it rains, blame me.

Glen of the DownsNature reserve · 1.1 mi

Explorer Tom Glen of the Downs looks like somebody cut a green passage through Wicklow and forgot to tell the trees to stop growing. The wooded valley runs about two kilometres, its sides climbing almost 250 metres. Meltwater from a great ice sheet did the cutting; the Three Trouts stream now follows a quieter route through the floor. A 59-hectare nature reserve protects part of it. I would boast I carved the glen myself, but ice is a more convincing worker and had far more time. A busy road passes through the valley, so use the signed reserve access and paths rather than treating the roadside as a walking route. Check current trail conditions and keep to safe ground in wet weather. Listen for water once the traffic fades. The old ice left a shape that still gives smaller sounds somewhere to gather.

Greystones South BeachBeach / strand · 1.6 mi

Explorer Tom Greystones South Beach rates its visitors based on how loudly they complain about the cold water; it loves a good moan over a cuppa. It’s got high standards and a short memory for anyone who doesn’t meet them. Ten minutes here and you'll have a yarn for the pub.

Greystones WayWalking route · 1.6 mi

Explorer Tom Greystones Way has a curse that only affects people who don't wave at the houses. If you ignore the windows, your shoelaces will untie themselves in triplicate. Go on, count the windows and get it wrong like I did.

The CoveBeach / strand · 1.7 mi

Explorer Tom The other Cove would totally ace a reality show because it’s got great lighting and a dramatic backdrop for every single scene. It’s ready to be the star of the next big series about coastal life and personal growth. A good place to forget your phone for ten minutes.

Glenroe FarmHeritage attraction · 1.9 mi

Explorer Tom Glenroe Farm gave up chocolate for Lent but accidentally ate the whole farm instead of just the treats. Now it’s in a state of absolute denial about its own gluttony and historical significance. Stand on the spot and imagine the gossip it's heard from every passing tractor driver.
