What is recorded here

Reenavanna East holds a triangular standing stone, collapsed and out of alignment beside a stone row on a small plateau above two rivers. It may be an outlier belonging to the row, or it may mark something the row forgot. A barrow lies twenty metres east, suggesting the slope once carried more than pasture. The stone still leans into the valley like a witness that refused to fall flat.

On a small plateau, on the W-facing slope of a hillock, in pasture, overlooking the valley of the Aughvaria River to N and the Gortnageragh River to S. A barrow (LI016-002002-) lies c. 20m to E. Not depicted on OS historic mapping. Described as collapsed single standing stone (H 1.2m) which is triangular-shaped and which lies out of alignment, approx. 10m to SE of stone row (LI016-002001-). Its purpose is unclear but it may be an outlier that is associated with the alignment. Monument is visible on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages taken 11/03/2014. Probably dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had ritual or territorial significance, possibly linked to the nearby barrow. Local folklore or specific use is not recorded.
