Standing stone in Rathmore stands 1.7m high on wet Donegal pasture, thin as a knife and aligned north to south. It may have marked a boundary, a burial or a gathering place, but its true purpose has faded like the pasture grass after rain. What remains is a sharp stone in open sky, waiting for someone to remember why it was set there.
A standing stone 1.7m high × 0.4m wide × 0.16m thick; N-S. Situated on fairly wet pasture land with extensive views.
The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.

Likely dating to the Bronze Age, this standing stone may have functioned as a territorial marker or ceremonial monument. Its alignment and prominent position suggest a possible astronomical or ritual significance, though specific folklore or use remains unrecorded.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
