Standing stone in Maghanaboe

An Seabhac (1939, 247) mentions 'na Galláin' on the N side of the Glennahoo river, W of the feature marked 'Wolfstep' on the OS maps. This indicates a location on the steep mountain slopes above the narrow river gorge which extends SW from the head of the Glennahoo valley and which rises rapidly from 400-1000 feet OD. Although the name suggests the existence of standing stones, no such monument was located and the archaeological significance of the site remains uncertain. The above description is derived from J.
