Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in An Scragán

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

An Scragán is a vanished fort, remembered only in the field name Páirc an Leasa. Earth and time erased its rim, but the local tongue still traces its shape. The land keeps what the land took back.
This field is known locally as 'Páirc an Leasa' (An Seabhac 1939, 250), but the fort itself has not been extant within living memory. The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 730. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
