What is recorded here
Lisgortnatrasnee/Lios Gort na Trasnaí: Situated on a NW facing slope with extensive views towards Brandon mountain and Brandon Bay. On the 2nd edition of the OS map the site is marked c. 70m downslope from its position on the 1st edition. A slightly raised area at the latter site may indicate its location. It has been described as a circular, earthen-banked enclosure, 80 feet (24.4m) in diameter, with a 'cave of some perches leading from it' (OSNB Stradbally, 20).
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 694. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
