Standing stone in Lismire

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Lismire holds a small standing stone, barely two feet high, recorded on D. Kelly's land before the exact spot was forgotten. It is the kind of place where human life still echoes, even when the stone itself has slipped from modern memory.
Bowman (1934, 147) recorded standing stone on D. Kelly's land '...2ft 3in high, 3ft 1in by 2ft 1in' (ibid.). Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
