What is recorded here

Mortons stands alone in high bogland, its rectangular frame pointing north and south like a needle dropped into wet earth. It is not a grand monument, but a small sharp marker in a vast empty landscape. Perhaps someone set it there to remember a boundary, a loss, or a route across country that no longer shows its shape. The bog has swallowed every other trace, leaving only the stone to keep the direction of what was forgotten.
