St Marys Ch

On W side of graveyard (9519). Church consists of rectangular nave with shallow rectangular chancel at E end and pinnacled 4-storey tower at W end. Tower has string course between floors; round-arched door in W wall at ground-floor level, round-arched louvred opes on all floors above. Formerly C of I parish church of Athnowen; deconsecrated in 1979 but still roofed. Appears to have been rebuilt in early 18th century (Brady 1863, vol. 1, 179); tower at W end added 1756 according to inscribed stone plaque on tower; church extensively repaired in 1877 and 1888, chancel probably added at that stage (Cole 1903, 8-9).
