St Martin's Well is traditionally associated with St Martin of Tours, a 4th-century Christian saint venerated in Ireland for his role as a protector and healer. Holy wells dedicated to him were often visited for cures related to skin ailments and general well-being, with rituals typically involving the drinking of or bathing in the water.
