Slab-lined Cemetery (Site of) in County Kildare, Ireland, is a vanished burial ground remembered only through local stories and old map notes. Gravel workers may have opened the site around 1920, exposing rows of dead people before the land was levelled and hidden beneath pasture. The cemetery no longer shows itself, but it still occupies the field, waiting beneath the grass for someone to stop and imagine the hands that placed the slabs.

In level improved pasture. Recorded on the latest ed. (1939-40) of the OS 6-inch map as, ‘Slab-lined Cemetery (Site of)’. In 1972, there was no visible surface trace of the cemetery which, according to local information, was uncovered c. 1920 during gravel extraction at a low hill, and the area was subsequently levelled in the 1950’s (SMR file).
