Doon Castle stands as a buried rectangle inside a larger ring, its angular memory preserved beneath wet Westmeath grass while the surrounding curve fades into pasture. The castle resisted forgetting longer than the round fortress that once contained it.

Situated on a slight natural rise, in low-lying, wet pasture. Depicted on the 1913 ed. OS 6-inch map as ‘Doon Castle (Site of)’. Monument described in 1971 as a large subrectangular-shaped enclosure located within the S half of ringwork (WM024-010----). It is enclosed by a low, broad grass-covered bank and divided internally by faint traces of a grass-covered earth and stone bank.
