Oldcourt Castle vanished into a gentle western marsh, leaving only a thirty-centimetre ridge where stone and human life once stood. The 1838 survey still draws its rectangular ghost in dotted lines, proving the land remembered the building even after people stopped naming it.

Situated on a very gentle W-facing slope in a marshy area. No surface remains visible, slightly raised ground (H c. 0.3m) in area where ‘Site of Castle’ is marked on Ordnance Survey maps. Levelled castle location indicated as a narrow rectangular area in dotted outline on 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map. Please note that the description published in the 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997) for this monument, Inventory No. 1997, p. 185, refers in error to Oldcourt Castle in Bray (WI008-002----), Co.
