Castle Laurence vanished beneath a barn on a gentle east-facing slope in Ballymanus. Sir Laurence Esmond, Baron of Limerick, likely built the fortified house there before soil, time and farm work erased its walls. The field still answers to the castle name, preserving a shape no longer visible.

Situated on a gentle E-facing slope. A castle or fortified house appears to have been built here by Sir Laurence Esmond, Baron of Limerick (Price 1946, 73). Not visible at ground level. The location is known locally as the 'castle field', and is now occupied by a barn. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). Built by Sir Laurence Esmond, Baron of Limerick, in the 17th century. The site is remembered for its historical association with the Esmond family, who were prominent in Irish military and political affairs.
