Shantonagh Lodge

Detached L-plan three-bay two-storey house, built c.1820, having full-height return to south end of rear (west) elevation with recent single-storey extension to re-entrant corner, and box-bay window to south gable with hipped slate roof. Pitched slate roofs with paired red brick chimneystacks, terracotta ridge tiles, timber bargeboards and cast-iron rainwater goods. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls with render quoins, and roughcast rendered to rear. Square-headed window openings having raised render reveals with moulded render surrounds, painted masonry sills and replacement one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Recent external timber shutters to windows to front and rear elevations. Square-headed door opening to front with moulded render surround and timber panelled door and over-light. Two ranges of single-storey outbuildings to rear of house, having pitched slate roofs with red brick eaves course and some cast-iron rainwater goods, rubble stone walls, square-headed window opening to west range with one-over-one pane timber sliding sash window, square-headed door openings with single and double-leaf timber battened doors, segmental-headed door opening, and elliptical carriage arch, with recent timber fittings. Decorative cast-iron pedestrian gate to narrow garden to front of house, with matching railings on render plinth. Matching double-leaf vehicular gate to north-west of house.

This well-composed house retains its original form, and is articulated by render detailing. The fenestration is enlivened by subtle moulded render surround, and the outbuildings and cast-iron railings to the front enhance the composition of the site.
