Settlement cluster in Towergare

Settlement cluster

What is recorded here

Thatched houses are recorded on the terrier of the Down Survey map of Kilburne parish (1655-6) at Towergare. According to Power (1952, 364) a place called an Seana Shráid, or the old street, at Towergare could be interpreted as a village. A field is locally known as an Seana Shráid, but it has been broken into several others and there is no evidence of an antiquity. Power, Rev. P. (1952) The placenames of the Decies. (second ed.) Cork University Press. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 08 June 2011
