Linked to a local tradition of healing from scurvy, the well was historically visited for its supposed medicinal properties, particularly in treating vitamin C deficiency. The site, like many holy wells, may have had an early Christian or pre-Christian ritual significance, later Christianized.

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
