What is recorded here
Detached six-bay single- and two-storey former school, built c.1860, comprising recessed two-bay two-storey former school master's house, flanked by two-bay single-storey classroom blocks. Extensions to rear (south). Later in use as fish processing site, now vacant. Hipped slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks. Coursed dressed stone walls. Square-headed openings with tripartite timber windows and carved label mouldings. Eight-over-six pane windows to school room blocks. Four-over-four pane windows to ground floor recessed block. Casement windows to first floor recessed block. Squared-headed openings with timber battened doors and limestone thresholds. Cobbled surface to front (north) of recessed central block.
One of the most significant buildings in Baltimore, this imposing structure has various notable and aesthetically pleasing features. The central two-storey block was probably built as the master's house, while the flanking schoolrooms are reminders of a time when boys and girls were educated separately.
