Freestanding gable-fronted Roman Catholic Church, built c.1820, remodelled 1908, having four-bay nave and projecting entrance. Now in use as community centre. Pitched slate roof having stone copings with cross gable apex finials to gables, decorative ridge cresting and cast-iron rainwater goods. Painted roughcast rendered walls set on painted smooth rendered plinth. Pointed-arch window openings having painted smooth rendered block and start surrounds, hood-mouldings and painted stone sills with replacement windows. Pointed-arch door opening to front elevation having painted smooth rendered block and start surround, hood-moulding and replacement timber door with timber Y-traceried fanlight. Square-headed door opening to entrance having recent timber door. Interior has smooth rendered ceiling and part-exposed timber roof structure resting on masonry corbels, rubble stone walls having smooth rendered reveals and surrounds to windows, smooth rendered wall below dado level, and recent partitions accommodating kitchen, offices, toilets and circulation to north end. Church set within graveyard. Square-plan painted rendered gate piers with metal gate and painted stone wall to rear (north). Hedgerow to remaining boundaries.
This early nineteenth-century church is situated in a rural setting at Donaghmoyne. Its simple form is enhanced by the projecting porch and its interior is notable for the retention of its timber roof complete with moulded corbel supports. Although no longer in use as for religious purposes, it retains its original form and character. It is a structure that continues to house a social function for the district.
