Moulded granite sarcophagus, carved c.1880, having lion's feet base, set on plain stone slab, marking grave of members of Madden family. Moulded granite lid with bronze soldier's hat and scabbard. Inscriptions to each side of tomb. Set within enclosure bounded by cast-iron spearheaded railings on rendered plinth with dressed sandstone coping, having cast-iron pedestrian gate to front (east) elevation. Other family graves also contained within enclosure, including two cross memorials, and variously-shaped marble and limestone headstones.

The high social status and prosperity of the deceased are evident in this carefully designed and executed monument. It commemorates the deaths of brothers Charles Dudley Ryder Madden and William Wolseley Madden of Hilton Park, who died within 5 weeks of each other. Bronze mouldings of soldiers insignia provides contextual interest, as both men served in the 8th King's Liverpool Regiment, as well as an artistic touch to the site.
