Rockmarshall Court Tomb

Rockmarshall Court Tomb is a Neolithic court cairn built around 3500 BC on the southern slopes of Annaloughan Mountain, where five narrowing chambers lead toward a broad arc of six stones. It stands beside Rockmarshall House on the Cooley Peninsula, a place settled since the Mesolithic when people ate oysters, periwinkles and perhaps foraged berries from the Mournes. The gallery stretches fifteen metres through low, fallen stones and scattered cairn material, as if the mountain still holds its breath around the dead.
