Rock art in Ardrinane

A 'cupped stone' was noted at this location by the Kerry Archaeological Survey. In a letter dated August 1972 (Finlay 1973, 22), P.J. O'Sullivan indicated that this may not be the correct location, but local inquiry failed to shed further light on the matter. Orpen (1912, 478-9) also recorded a stone with cups and circles 'behind Ardrinane' this may refer to the cup-marked stone in Brackloon (KE045-082----). The above description is derived from J. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 4 August 2013 In improved lush pasture (53m OD), on a generally level plateau. Good views of surrounding landscape and enclosed by higher ground all around. Beenoskee and Stradbally mountain clearly visible to N and gap in mountains to S, where Owenascaul River enters the sea.
