Road

Located in Sharragh bog in close proximity to a tree-covered bog island known locally as the 'Priest's Bush' on which a mass-rock (1925) is located. The site was investigated by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (UCD) on the 18th and 19th August 1997 after it was discovered during conservation work on the bog. The togher was constructed from tangentially split and radially split oak roundwoods and half-split roundwoods ranging in width from 15cm to 23cm. It was orientated in a NW-SE direction heading towards the bog island containing the mass-rock (1925). The construction of the togher was dated dendrochronologically to the late sixth or early seventh century AD.
