What is recorded here

In a peat bog which is now almost exhausted. A gravel roadway (Wth 3.5m; D 0.15m) was noted running WNW-ESE through the narrowest part of Mountdillion bog in Mountdillon townland (L c. 500m) in the 1940s and 1950s, c. 1m below the surface of the bog (NMI file). A sample has been radiocarbon dated to AD 887-1206 (1020±75BP; OxA-2448). There is no visible surface evidence of it today in Mountdillion, but sections of it have been traced at the E edge of the bog in Erris (RO030-022----).
