What is recorded here

One hundred and fifteen acres belonged to Charles O'Conor at Tully in 1641, suggesting a resident strong enough to hold that much land during turbulent times. The castle itself has vanished, leaving only a moated scar in the Roscommon earth where its walls once stood. That empty waterhole is not a failure of imagination but an invitation to picture the doors, hearths and arguments that filled the missing stone.

A castle is marked at Tully on the Strafford map of Ballintubber barony c. 1636 (Simington 1949, map b (28)) where Charles O'Conor owned 115 acres in 1641 (ibid. 26).
