Road

The site (Wth 0.55m; D 0.53m) is orientated NW-SE and composed of planks, light brushwood and a tree trunk. The majority of elements are longitudinally laid. The timbers are closely set with the brushwood loosely distributed around them. The trunk (diam. 0.26m max.) is of elm and a hazelnut was recovered from beneath it. Three planks are radially split and two are further trimmed to a lozenge-shaped section. Other woodworking is indicated by a number of chisel points and a wedge point and there is evidence for branch-trimming. Wood species include hazel, ash, alder and oak. The wood is in good condition and sits in well-humified Sphagnum peat containing plant rhizomes. The site is located 1.25m to the N of SMR WM039-089---- in the opposite drain face.
